Wendell A. Smith LLB (Hons) Commercial Law, BPTC

Founder & Principal

Wendell A. Smith is the Principal and Founder of Wendell A. Smith Law Chambers. A concise and relentless advocate, Mr. Smith is an accomplished civil, commercial, and criminal litigator who prides himself on helping clients resolve contentious issues and achieve their objectives in a pragmatic and efficient manner. His resolve towards ensuring the task is done, no matter the number of hours needed to achieve the necessary goal ensures his clients receive the best representation and is one of the qualities that make Mr. Smith a great advocate and attorney.

 

Mr. Smith studied law at the University of the West of England (Bristol), UK, and received his Bachelor of Law with an emphasis in Commercial Law in 2010. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales, and to The Bahamas Bar in 2012.

 

Mr. Smith began his legal career working closely with one of the premier Criminal King’s Counsel in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. He also spent time working with one of the Bahamas’ leaders in Civil and Commercial Litigation. After gaining invaluable trial experience in various complex matters across the legal arena, Mr. Smith sought to establish a firm that provided clients with big firm results and the personal attention of a boutique firm. In 2015, he founded Wendell A. Smith Law Chambers, a full-service law practice. Mr. Smith is an ardent litigator and frequently appears before the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal.

  • Successfully represented client’s constitutional rights that had been infringed due to unlawful arrest, false imprisonment, and inhumane treatment, and the client awarded punitive damages

  • Successfully represented client’s constitutional rights that had been infringed, and the client awarded aggravated damages

  • Lead Counsel in a Supreme Court matter for infringement of client’s constitutional rights and malicious prosecution for a claim in excess of $400,000

  • Lead Counsel in a Supreme Court matter involving two major companies in a breach of contract in excess of $350,000

  • Lead Counsel in a Supreme Court matter defending a major company against a claim for fraud

  • Lead Counsel in a Supreme Court matter involving two major companies for tortious interference and breach of contract in excess of $1,000,000

  • Lead Counsel in a Supreme Court matter defending a client against several counts of money laundering, and fraud in excess of $500,000

  • Successfully obtained an acquittal for a client charged with Murder, after successfully undermining the main Prosecution's witness assertion that the accused confessed to committing the crime
